Crown Prince Pavlos is the second of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie's five children and the last to be born in Greece. He was born at the Royal Palace at Tatoi in Athens on 20th May 1967.

He and his elder sister, Princess Alexia, left Greece with their parents in 1967 - when Prince Pavlos was seven months old..

He went with his family to Rome after his father, King Constantine, failed to overthrow the Colonels in December 1967. His first memories are of his home in Rome at 13, Via di Porta Latina and having lessons in the summerhouse in the garden with his elder sister and younger brother Nikolaos, (born in Rome in 1969).

Their Greek teacher was Professor John Kanellopoulos. Other children of Greeks living in Rome joined them. He remembers playing with his friends and family - and visiting his Paternal Grandmother, Queen Frederica, who lived nearby.

In 1973, the family moved to Denmark and lived with his Maternal Grandmother Queen Ingrid in the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. Lessons continued under Professor Kanellopoulos, but only to four children - Princess Alexia, Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos and Professor Kanellopoulos' daughter, Kelly.

The family moved to Chobham in Surrey, England in 1974, and then to Hampstead in North London. After some more years of private tuition, Crown Prince Pavlos attended the Hellenic College in London.

The school was founded by his parents, King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, in 1980. At the College, he enjoyed sports and was an active member of the basketball team. He was very interested in History and gained a range of 'O' levels and 'O/A' levels. He made some good lifelong friends at school.

When he was 17, he received a High School Diploma from the Hellenic College. In 1981 during his first year at the school, Crown Prince Pavlos visited Greece with his family for the funeral of his Grandmother, Queen Frederica.

He remembers the brief trip, when he was just 14, as an emotional time. 'I was happy to be back in my own country, but very sad that my grandmother, Queen Frederica, had died. I shall always remember how happy people were to see us.'

In 1984, Crown Prince Pavlos went to Montezuma, near Santa Fe, New Mexico to study for an International Baccalaureate at the Armand Hammer United World College of the American West - where he graduated in May 1986.

This College is one of ten schools around the world based on the educational ideals of Kurt Hahn and the Outward Bound Movement - the first was set up by Lord Mountbatten in Wales (the Atlantic College).

The UWC schools provide for international students from all walks of life. Prince Pavlos' College had 200 students from 65 nationalities when he was there.

His course included community service - which involved him working in an old people's home, and also being a member of a search and rescue team in the Rocky Mountains, helping people who were lost or injured in hiking and climbing accidents. He also worked in a veterinary clinic, and was a reserve fireman for forest fires.

Between September 1986 and May 1990, Crown Prince Pavlos served as a Lieutenant in the British Army. He completed his officer training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst where he served in the 6th. Platoon Normany Company and was awarded the position of Commandant' Stick Orderly - which gave him a lead position in all formal parades. (He carried a Stick previously used by David Niven, the late British international film star).

He was then awarded a Short Service Commission in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. He suffered a near fatal car accident while doing special arms training with the Royal Armoured Corps in June 1987.

After a full recovery he served three years with his Regiment as an officer in B Squadron commanding 4th. Troop. During these three years he served in England and Germany, he also went to Canada where he took part in the realistic 'Mediceman 7' full Brigade live firing exercise and took members of his troop and B' Squadron on a 10 day visit / exercise to Jordan.

During his service in the Army he picked up Polo, played on the Regimental basket ball team and was a member of the down hill ski racing team.

In 1990, Crown Prince Pavlos left the British Army to go and study in America at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. During this time he stood ready for the Gulf War - but reservists were not called on - Prince Pavlos remained on the reserve list till spring of 1999.

He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in 1993 from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in International Relations, Law and Organisation. Stayed on a further two years at the Georgetown Masters School of Foreign Service and graduated in 1995 with a Masters Degree in Foreign Relations and Economics - specialising in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. At this time he was joined by his first cousin from Spain Prince Felipe, whom he shared a house with. He also took a summer job in Hong Kong with the Pacific Basin Shipping Company.

In October 1993, Crown Prince Pavlos met Marie-Chantal Miller in New Orleans at the birthday party of a mutual friend. They married in London in 1995 at a wonderful ceremony in St. Sophia Cathedral and reception at Hampton Court on a glorious summer July day attended by all the Royal Families of Europe.

They now have 3 children - Maria-Olympia, born in New York in 1996, Constantine Alexios born in New York in 1998 and Achileas Andreas born in New York in 1999.

Between 1995 and 1997, Crown Prince Pavlos was employed by the Charles R. Weber Company Inc (a ship brokerage firm) in the operation and marketing departments.

He sits on the New York City Ballet Board as well as being the US Committee Chairman of the United World Colleges and a member of the Board of the United World College of the American West.

He and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal have recently taken over the US Chairmanship of the charity founded by his aunt, Princess Irene, World in Harmony. This charity channels support for projects to help disadvantaged people and communities around the world.

Crown Princess Marie-Chantal is a member of the Board of the New York School of American Ballet and on the Board of the Animal Medical Centre (which provides help to homeless and poor people to look after their pets).
